This month's Networking: Is the Landscape Level for Men and Women? offers insight and experience about the differences of social networking for men and women, and Chatter Is Mightier Than The Sword brings into view the social media revolution and how this "movement has ushered in the age of consumer empowerment."
In our Innovative Products section you will find some interesting GPS solutions from Garmin. Garmin's Forerunner 205 sport technology can be a lightweight personal trainer, and tell you how to get home! And, turn your BlackBerry® device into a GPS navigator with Garmin Mobile™ for BlackBerry®.
We rearranged the right margin column to include a new Featured Podcast audio link, a link to a high traffic article from our Web site in the new Blast from the Past, and an updated A Good Read rounds out the new grouping.
We are always happy to hear from readers. Mike Silverstein of StandoutNET suggested we vary our subject line each month and offer readers a preview into the content. We took Mike's suggestion and made the change this month. Please keep the comments and suggestions coming our way.
Networking: Is the Landscape Level for Men and Women?
by Teri Saylor, Open Water Communications

Bob Moore holds court at his regular table in a downtown city club in Raleigh, N.C.  An executive coach, he's always there early for breakfast, armed with business cards, starting each day ready for networking. After all, he never knows who he might meet.

Networking is about connectivity. From casual gossip grapevines, to business events, to coffee shops, to sophisticated online sites, our society offers endless ways to stay connected. And one size or style does not fit all.

Chatter Is Mightier Than The Sword
by Todd Coats, Chief Creative Officer - Capstrat
Consider buying a product from a well-respected brand. Does your experience always live up to the brand promise? Now, if a brand doesn't live up to your expectations, you have a mighty big soapbox to shout from. The social media revolution has exploded, and it's giving consumers unprecedented power.

Pre-revolution, disappointment with a product simply meant I stopped buying it. Or maybe I made a scene in the store. As a consumer, by God, I control the purse strings! This brand cares about me, right? Well, not so fast. Few companies translate their brand promise from the Candyland of paid advertising to the real consumer experience. Some, like Apple and Target, are getting it right. But I've never heard a McDonald's patron leave the drive-through shouting, "I'm lovin' it!"

Blast from the Past

Top down or bottom up forecasting
The traditional top down forecast is often based on the total revenue needs of the company that is spread equally across the sales resources for fulfillment.
A better alternative is to accept the initial bottom up forecast and then look closely at individual sales territories, districts, or regions for the new business.
